LEGO had a space-themed collection out about 15 years ago called Insectoids. This line reminds me a bit of that older line, since it has many insect-themed models. While I think I liked the Insectiod set (overall) better than the Galaxy Squad sets, There are some things I prefer in this collection. For instance:1. The colors are better on these models. The Insectiods were black, blue and yellow. While that looks cool and all, I find a lot more green and red bugs in my world than black and blue bugs.2. The mini-fig model are cooler. These mini-fig aliens have lots of different head pieces that give them each a specific and very alien look. They are of greater diversity and look better than the alien helmets in the Insectiod line.3. Opposing factions are present. In the Galaxy Squad set, you have two separate factions - the human and robot heroes and the evil alien insects who are trying to capture them. The old Insectoid line had many different models, but they were ALL alien insects with no one to fight against. Kids always like it better when they can create battles with two opposing sides, and this line provides that opportunity. In fact many of the larger models from this collection include both factions inside the one large box, so kids can start their imaginary conflicts right from the start.I like this set a lot. The large alien bug machine is a bit smaller than what I think it should have been, but it is still a decent set, and one most any boy should enjoy building and playing with.
